Mabel
At Made by Mabel we have created a world that is brought to life through the eyes of a young girl. Mabel, who interacts with the friendly hedgerow creatures that inhabit her garden, and through using her range of creative skills has written a series of fables that encourage children to engage with the animals and nature they can find right on their doorstep. It would also seem that Mabel is a dab hand at knitting as the collection is all designed by her and made for the animals in the stories.
The collection
Made by Mabel is a fresh collection of handcrafted knitwear for children combining playfulness with a sense of nostalgia and storytelling. Inspired by jumpers that our Grannies used to make (there were some good ones) and looking at vintage designs we have created a range that although reminiscent of the past has one firm converse clad foot firmly in the here and now. We have ensured that through using the best british yarns we can find, our garments really are the best quality and even more importantly built to last, all lovingly made in England of course. Many of our pieces are hand knitted the old fashioned way with needles and yes, by a lovely old granny. Inspired by the english countryside, our first collection provides a range of the soft muted colours from sharp crab apple and grassy greens to juicy berry shades. Never has nature looked so good!
Mabel isn’t always well behaved but she does believe in looking after the world around her which is why nearly all of our materials are natural and won’t harm our surroundings. Also believing in good old fashioned mending, we can show you how to darn and never, NEVER underestimate the power of the “hand-me-down” which is why we create designs that won’t date but just get that little bit snugglier.
